Financial Research Analyst

Duties:

  • Inform investment decisions by analyzing financial information to forecast business, industry or economic conditions, particularly in Sub-Saharan and North Africa

  • Prepare plans of action for investment, using financial analyses, including maintaining detailed economic and financial models of companies in Africa

  • Evaluate and compare the relative quality of various securities in a given industry. Provide research and analysis of economic variables to support investment team portfolio decisions and recommend investments and investment timing

  • Present oral and written reports on general economic trends, individual corporations and entire industries

  • Write research reports and develop views on business direction

  • Monitor fundamental economic, industrial and corporate developments by analyzing information from financial publications and services, investment banking firms, government agencies, trade publications, company sources or personal interviews

  • Track and analyze micro economic data on African economies and businesses

  • Monitor African central bank policies and report changes to the investment team on a weekly basis

  • Manage and track database of commodities to identify commodity cycles and arising investment opportunities

  • Maintain and develop a network of African contacts to include economics, brokers, businessmen and government representatives

  • Conduct frequent research trips to Africa. Interpret data on price, yield, stability, future investment risk trends, economic influences and other factors affecting investment programs

  • Perform due diligence on African companies and government entities

  • Facilitate purchase of investments for companies in accordance with company policy

  • Support two portfolio managers in a variety of investment functions focused on African markets

Requirements:

  • Must have a Master’s Degree, or foreign equivalent, in Finance or Economics

  • Must have two years of Economic Analysis experience. The two years of experience must include experience with economic principles, modeling, and financial accounting; portfolio management; Frontier Markets securities; and analyzing African companies and their economies

  • Must travel 15% internationally
